About ME
I am Jeff Deaton and I am currently a member of the Mustang
Club of Tampa. I have owned Mustangs since I was 19 years old
and have had at least one in my garage ever since. In the past I
was vice president of Mid-Florida
Mustang Club and along with Randy Betsinger and Howard 'Sonny'
Roberts - started the Silver Springs Mustang Roundup… though it's
a little bigger now (our biggest year had about 700 cars in the
park), I still think the first few years were the best. I am married
to my Jr High girlfriend, and have 2 kids Zachary and Allison. Because
I am a consultant with Accenture,
I often have to look hard to find the time to work on the car, but
I manage. As I always say, my goal is to have the car on the road
by this time next year…. I promise
Mustangs I have owned (in order)
66 Sprint 200 - my first mustang and one I wish I would
have never gotten rid of. A solid Texas-car, this had auto, console,
blue and white pony interior, silver blue paint with white vinyl
top. The only problems it gave me were when the original carb and
gas tank sprung leaks.. of course the gas tank did after I had just
filled it up (though gas prices were only about $1/gal then) . I
really remember this car because i had it in Texas and I would go
to cruise-ins and shows with my grandfather. He always helped me
clean it, and even when the paint looked bad - he would say how
sharp the car looked.
66 Convertible - this is the car I just had to have. It
looked great and won many awards, but it was a 6 to 8 conversion
and I really wanted a car that I could build original and this one
wasn't it. The car later appeared in the movie The Specialist and
was driven by Sharon Stone in the last 40 seconds of the movie (mainly
while the credits were rolling). It has since been re-restored and
looks great. the funniest story about this was when we went on a
cruise with my grandmother, i won some money at the craps table..
enough to get me a new surfboard. obviously I didnt have racks for
the board, so she sat in the back seat for the drive home. Everyone
laughed pretty hard with a 8' board and me in the front, and grandma
in the back seat.
64 ½ Coupe - this is the car to which this site is dedicated.
I like it because of the unique options it has. Its rarest option
is the black cloth and vinyl interior. I have only seen 2 other
cars since 1990 that have this interior and 'heard' of a handful
of others.
67 Coupe - traded a topper from a pickup truck for this
car. It was a L6 white with green interior (originally a green/green
car). I ended up selling it for a few hundred dollars when I realized
3 cars in a college townhouse was enough for me.
94 Coupe - October of 1993 was when I purchased my first
brand new vehicle; A laser red mustang coupe with tan interior.
Very impulsive buy (especially for a 21 yr old). Though I liked
it, my knees were constantly hitting the door handle in a way that
bothered me. I should have listened to the salesman - who was a
buddy of mine - and bought the leftover 93 LX 5.0 that I could have
had for about 10,000. it was white with a 5 speed and I had a choice
of hatchback or coupe.. oh well
84 GT Turbo Hatchback - yes, the SVO's stepchild. This
would have been an interesting car to restore as I only paid $300
for the car - and it was running and driving. It only looked like
crud as the paint was badly faded. I am sure I will find out that
these cars are as rare as hens teeth.. another oh well.
85 Convertible - this was trusty ole red which I got rid
of my Merkur XR4Ti to have.. just had to have another mustang in
the garage. This car did its service on the campus of FSU - driving
back and forth to Orlando. (side note - I wish I still had the Merkur
also…)
as i think about it - i will try to dig up pics of these cars for
here
